Team Portrait Moabi, Gustav Kluge
This book documents the “Team Project Moabit” by the artist Gustav Kluge, the starting point of which is a group portrait on the subject of torture. The connection between the theme of torture and the group portrait goes back to a work by the artist from 1995, a group portrait of three survivors of the Neuengamme concentration camp, who were available to him for a documentary portrait. Shortly afterwards, the idea of a group portrait of the team of psychologists at the Treatment Center for Torture Victims in Berlin emerged to mark its five-year anniversary. The resulting image brings together several levels and elements; on the one hand, the group portrait, and on the other hand, elements that extend beyond this, which universalize the connection between torture and power on the one hand and the relationship between art and society on the other.
