Descriere

In his compelling book, "What's So Great About the Eiffel Tower?", Jonathan Glancey delves into the rich history and multifaceted significance of this iconic monument. Glancey, a distinguished architectural critic and historian, brings a unique perspective to the narrative, blending historical analysis with personal reflections and cultural critique. Through his insightful examination, readers are invited to explore the various dimensions that contribute to the tower's greatness.

Glancey traces the story of the Eiffel Tower back to its conception by the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose name has become synonymous with the structure. Eiffel's innovative use of iron and his bold vision challenged the traditional notions of architecture and engineering of the time. The construction process itself was a feat of precision and ingenuity, involving the assembly of over 18,000 individual iron parts and the labor of 300 workers. Despite the initial controversy and the skepticism of its critics, the tower quickly became a beloved landmark, attracting millions of visitors from around the world.
